Agatha Lira: identity and public visibility

Her own comments about prejudice and how she understands her identity.

Speaking from experience

In the 2024 interview, Lira spoke openly as a trans woman and described prejudice she had experienced during her transition. That account appeared alongside her discussion of professional work. She addressed the subject through her own experience.

Identity and appearance

Lira challenged the assumption that someone’s identity could be determined by a particular physical change. She emphasised how a person feels about themselves and objected to a single expectation of what transition should look like. These are the views she expressed in the conversation.

Giving people time to understand

Asked about acceptance, Lira encouraged patience and described differences in people’s backgrounds and generations. Her comments allowed for understanding to develop over time. The interview made room for her perspective on visibility and relationships as well as her work in production.
